Sold Rare preserved 15th/19th centuries chateau in the Aisne department

This property is located 180 km (110 miles) north-east of Paris, between Saint-Quentin and Laon, 7 km (4 miles) from shops and services. It is composed of a 19th century neogothic chateau with 2 outbuildings, an indoor swimming pool and many vestiges of a 12th century fortress in 4 ha (10 acres) of gently rolling landscaped grounds. It benefits from unimpeded views of the surroundings without any nuisance.

The front side of the chateau
The chateau displays a typical neogothic architecture.

During its glorious past, the estate has welcomed many Historic characters: François 1er (his coat of arms is displayed in the chapel), the Duc de Guise and Joan of Arc among the most famous, plus the 19th century architect Viollet-le-Duc.

The present chateau was built at the end of the 19th century on the ruins of a big 12th century fortress. It is mainly of neogothic style, with authentic gothic details from the first Renaissance. The chateau is made of brick and stone with a sandstone basis and a slate roof. It is composed of a central wing with a polygonal tower on one side, a square turret on the opposite side and a portery with a vaulted gateway.

The ground floor distributes a large entrance hall with period tiled floor, wainscotting and French ceiling, a reception room with monumental stone fireplace, wainscotting and stained-glass windows, a second reception room featuring a remarkable oak fireplace with a fresco, oak parquet, wainscotting, beautiful ceiling and big windows. Three other rooms feature mullioned windows, marble fireplaces with overmantel, wainscotting, beautiful parquet and painted French ceilings. This level also includes a library room, a kitchen with stone fireplace, a wide oak staircase leading upstairs, a second staircase, a second entrance and a third staircase leading down to the cellar.

The attic is lighted by beautiful dormer windows and offers about 280 sq. mt. (3 010 sq. ft.) available for easy conversion. The chateau is equipped with central heating (new boiler) and the wiring has been redone.
