Withdrawn Beautiful 17th century chateau in the Creuse department

This property is located in a hamlet, 360 km (223 miles) south of Paris, 10 km (6 miles) from a town and an access to the motorway. It is composed of a large 17th century chateau with outbuildings on 25 ha (62 acres) of grounds, that are surrounded by a peaceful gently rolling countryside.

The chateau was erected during the 17th century on an ancient 13th century fortress, the cellars of which have been preserved. It is made of roughcast grey granite and of blue granite for the openings frames and angles, with a slate roof. It is U-shaped, with a central wing extended by 2 wings and a big square tower on the south-west side. It features 3 levels, plus an attic and cellars, and offers a total interior space of ca. 1 200 sq. mt. (12 900 sq. ft.)

The chateau is in good general condition and extensive interior renovation is in progress. The restoration and creation of guests' rooms are subsidized, and building licenses for a swimming pool and garages have been granted.

On the ground floor, the main entrance is located in the centre of the main wing and gives access to an entrance hall with a stone staircase. The left hand side features a dining room (50 sq. mt., 540 sq. ft.) with a carved wood fireplace and, in the square tower, a reception room with marble fireplace and 5 windows on 3 sides, an equipped kitchen and a pantry. The right hand side features a second reception room, a storeroom, an ancient kitchen, a laundry room and further storerooms.

The 1st floor is accessed by the central stone staircase and by a second staircase at the right end of the central wing. This level includes a fully renovated apartment with parquet floor, a living room, a bedroom with fireplace, a dressing room and a large bathroom. Conversion of 5 further bedrooms, each with its own bathroom, and of a linen room.

From the tower, a wooden staircase leads to the 2nd floor, which is ready for conversion. It has the same layout as the 1st floor and can be divided into 5 bedrooms and a suite. The attic is lighted by beautiful period dormer windows and is also available for conversion. The underground floor includes 2 vaulted 13th century cellars, one of which with the boiler. The central heating and electrical fittings are recent.

The outbuildings include a caretaker's house (80 sq. mt., 860 sq. ft.) in need of renovation but with a new roof, and a shed for horses.

The grounds (25 ha, 62 acres) include fully enclosed landscaped grounds (6 ha, 15 acres) with an orchard, a spring, 3 wells and big century-old trees, including cedars.
