Beautiful listed 16th-19th centuries chateau in the Ardennes Department

This property is located 240 km (150 miles) from Paris, 180 km (112 miles) from Brussels, not far from Charleville-Mézières and from a railway station and all shops and services. It is composed of a ISMH-listed chateau dating from the 16th, 18th and 19th centuries, with vast outbuildings in 3 ha (7.4 acres) of landscaped grounds near a river.

General view
The chateau overlooks a meadow stretching to the river.

The chateau was owned by a Louis XIV's cardinal who used it as his refuge during the Fronde. The King and Anne d'Autriche have stayed there, as well as, much later, a famous French writer. A long drive edged by tall trees leads to an 18th century gate in wrought iron and a porch under a dovecote.

The chateau was built during the 16th century on an ancient fortress of the river. It is made of roughcast stone with a slate roof and features many period details. The eastern façade, framed by 2 round towers, is the oldest. A wing was added during the 18th century and a belvedere during the 19th century to enjoy the view of the surrounding countryside. The chateau offers a total interior space of 650 sq. mt. (7 000 sq. ft.) on 2 levels plus the attic, with 450 sq. mt. (4 840 sq. ft.) of living space. A renovation has been undertaken.

The floors are made of flagstone, marble or oak parquet and the windows have interior shutters, some of them flush with the wainscotting.
