Sold Rare listed 13th-18th centuries priory with exceptional gardens in the Pays d'Auge

This ancient Benedictine priory is located 180 km (110 miles) away from Paris, 30 km (19 miles) from the town of Lisieux (with railway station), 50 min from Deauville and the sea, close to the famous village of Camembert. It is listed as a Historic Monument (M.H. and I.S.M.H.) and is composed of 7 buildings on 2.2 ha (5.4 acres) of refined gardens surrounded by the gently rolling countryside of the Pays d'Auge, with no nuisance of any kind.

The priory was founded by the Abbey of Jumièges during the end of the 10th century. It still has most of the buildings used by the monks for their religious and farming life: exceptional 13th century tithe-barn (M.H.-listed), chapel (I.S.M.H.-listed) and surrounding wall, 14th and 15th centuries storehouse and cider-press, 18th century dwelling and bakery. The estate was bought by its farmer during the French Revolution and has remained in the same family until 1980. The current owners bought it in 1984.

of an ancient village, surrounded by the peaceful Norman countryside.

The buildings are set around the main courtyard. They feature stone or half-timbered walls with tiled roofs, except the main dwelling which has a slate roof. All the buildings have been renovated and converted since 1984, and are now in excellent condition.
