The chateau was built during the 12th century as a stronghold, of which only the moats and the southern building with a tower and a guards room remain. Armed monks used it during the Hundred Years War. Joan of Arc stopped there the day before she went to Compiègne, where she met the bishop to be heard on confession. She was captured when leaving the cathedral. In 1359, a battle was won against the english soldiers on the grounds of the estate and the name of the village was changed to celebrate this victory. The northern wing has been rebuilt during the 15th century. During the 18th century the estate was named after its landlord, who was ennobled by King Louis the 15th. James Gage Lyod, son of George the 4th, King of England, was the landlord during the 19th century. |
The chateau is made of stone with a tiled roof. It is in good general condition, offers 400 sq. mt.
